Question

Vir, firstly let me wish you the very best for this new year, and then thank you for giving a wonderful piece in the 'Food world' (Dec 31) I think you are absolutely right of folks going in more and more to Veg food, the prime example is me, who is absolutely bonkers on Awadhi food, I just love it after being here for about a year. Even though the past year was stressful to a lot of us you made it better with ur excellent articles. Thanks Vir...

Answer

That is very kind of you. Thank you so much Somnath.

Question

Recently you have said that , the British broadsheets and their supplements are the best in the world, I guess you meant in english speaking world only. If you have read the German, Dutch or French Broadsheets perhaps you may never make this comment.

Answer

Perhaps you're right. No doubt you speak all these languages. But sadly for me, I do not.

Question

Vir, did you like PM's New Year message?Even though i am hugely dissapointed with UPA 2, still I think Dr Singh is the Least Worst( maybe Pranab da could be better). I liked how he targeted the 5 key challenges. He used right words-rapid growth, 2nd agri revolution, increase transparency, phased reduction in subsidy, modernisation of defense.Maybe our generation is too ambitious. So when we are given bread we demand cake( or Pizza or Burger).

Answer

If demanding good governance is being too ambitious then yes, we are too ambitious.

Question

Answer

Thank you so much. Have a great year and wear your Christian Louboutins.

Question

Vir, The year is coming to a close and there is nothing to look forward to, what a failure this Govt has been, can it make an earnest effort in the coming year,? I hope it does. For me I have been in U.P. since last feb and I have never seen any other state where people are so poor, the common folks I mean, there is such a vast difference in what the advts say and the ground reality, what's happened here Vir?

Answer

Actually, the people are even poorer in Bihar. What's sad is that two decades of liberalisation don't seem to have made a significant difference to their lives. And judging by the way this government is going, I can't see things getting better.

Question

Vir I just saw a comment here on the quality of food at Karim,s, for me at times it was embarrassing, coz I used to take pals of mine there after a lot of pre publicity of the sumptuous food to be tasted only to be dissappointed, lately Karim's have not only gone down in quality but has become greasier, If you ask me its all about the guys concerned sticking to the quality consistently, nothing else, what is ur take Vir...?

Posted By: somnath karunakaran  |  Posted On: 30 Dec 2011  |  City: Ambedkar nagar

Answer

You're right in that consistent quality is the only thing that counts.

Answer

You're disappointed by Bombay? Do you know how many people turned up in Delhi at the same time? Around 500. Clearly, something has changed.

Question

Mr Sanghvi,

Do you think that if UPA had taken the high (& graceful) ground by admitting that they are not ready for bill to be voted in upper house, opposition and gang Anna would had behaved gracefully and won't harrass government and congress for lack of confidence and votes.
(this one would still be better than the ungraceful path UPA chose)

Posted By: ajay  |  Posted On: 30 Dec 2011  |  City: Delhi

Answer

There's a piece on the site that says roughly the same thing.

Question

Mr Sanghvi,

Thanks for a very well written analysis in your "mandate" article. Your piece nailed the situation completely.

Thanks
P.S: we have to concede a point (and i know you like Ms Banerjee) - it is not easy to deal with a over sensotive and volatile ally (not talking about "Left" during - UPA1; in fact "left" during UPA1 behaved really like a good ally)
Dr Singh has rarely shown his passion - 1) nuclear deal 2) FDI

Posted By: ajay  |  Posted On: 30 Dec 2011  |  City: Delhi

Answer

Thank you. Point conceded. She can be a very difficult ally.

Question

Hi Vir, Couldn't Moti Mahal just have done with only the Tandoori Trail chain which deals with only North-West Frontier cuisine rather than the Delux version where it also serves Chinese (like the old Park Street joints) ?

Posted By: Tushar  |  Posted On: 30 Dec 2011  |  City: Mumbai

Answer

I agree. But clearly, the owners of the trademark thought otherwise when they sold the franchises.
