You Ask: I read in HT sometime back that the amount of money which indian students spend annually! for their education abroad is to the tune of Rs.50,000 crores! Isn't that a sad commentary on the higher education system in this country? Sader still is that these students go abroad to study in third rates institutions. Granting that the Government is reluctant to invest money in this sector, what is the fameous private sector doing, specially in setting up colleges, universites in rural areas? Surely, Indian students would be quite willing to enrol in private institutions run on commercial principles provided their money would guarantee quality education.
Vir answers: I think PC’s point –echoed by Kapil Sibal—was that a) even though there are private educational institutions in India, people still spend so much to go abroad so obviously they are not centers of excellence and b) few of the institutions they go to abroad are run on a profit-making basis. You Ask: i was surprised at no mention of Netaji Subhash Bose anywhere on his birth anniversary !! Should the govt release ads on the birth anniversary of every great leader ?? Why can't India have a great museum that truly honours all our freedom fighers ??.. that might be a long lasting tribute..

You Ask: Hi Vir, you must have heard of r.vetrivel, the sub-inspector whose leg was hacked off.He bled to death. This happened in tirunelveli, tamilnadu. This was widely covered in ndtv. http://www.ndtv.com/news/india/callous_ministers_show_no_remorse_stay_away_from_cops_last_rites.php would the politicians have got away for their callous attitude towards mr.vetrivel if the same incident had happened in some other (developed/developing) country.

You Ask: Read your counterpoint in yesterday's HT - New findings on the New media. I wonder, How is present media guiding our youth? Where are they taking us? Excuse me,.for writing verily that, we (media) are all in a muck. We talk of changing products to suit youth requirements....giving them a facelift, with DNA remaining unchanged...
